Talent is more important than nature of work
Posted March 19, 2014
The following incident shows the psychological courage possessed by Abraham Lincoln & how not to get crushed by past happenings/incidents. This story came across me when I was reading about Swami Vivekananda & then I thought to share with you all : Abraham Lincoln was 16th President of United States of America. His elevation from from son of a a cobbler to President of USA caused hurtburns for many wealthy people as it undermined their greatness. When Lincoln was addressing all the distinguished members of senate, a wealthy and egoistic man interrupted his speech, lifted his shoe to show it to all and shouted, "Mr. Lincoln, though you became the president unexpectedly, never forget that your father made his living by stitching shoes. The shoes which you see now are very much stitched by your father only!". These words pleased many people present there who were jealous of the success of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln stopped his speech and remained silent for a while. Tears rolled down his cheeks. He controlled his emotions and continued his speech in a calm and composed manner saying, " I am thankful to you for reminding me of my father on this occasion. My father is an expert in stitching shoes. Talent is always to be honoured irrespective of the field in which it is expressed. I strive to express my talents in serving as the President of the country just as my father struggled to express his talents in his field". He waited for a while and added in a serious tone," As this gentleman pointed out, my father had stitched shoes not only for his family , but also for many other wealthy families. I have inherited the great talent of stitching shoes from my father. If the shoes stitched by my father are not in good condition or causing pain to your feet by becoming tight, you may hand over them to me so I can reapir them. I am proud of my father and never been ashamed of stitching shoes." All the people present were dumbstruck by the psychological courage of Abraham Lincoln
Challenges confronting the Democracy of India
Posted March 15, 2014
India has emerged as a powerfull and significant nation in the world today. It’s role in world politics and democratic initiatives in nations has been widely appreciated and respected. This can be proved by the fact that India play’s a major role in establishing the democratic principles in the countries which are war - affected such as Libya, Egypt. Our achievements in the field of Science and Technology, Sports – (baring few bad incidents such as doping scene), Economy, Entertainment, etc. tell a long story about struggle, creativity , knowledge and recognition. The basis of all this success and achievements comes from the fact that India is largest democracy of the world. But still the Indian democracy has not succeeded in every sphere and it can be said that it has failed in certain sphere’s.The Democratic polity in India has been confronted with challenges like Naxalism , Corruption , Linguism , Separatism , Unemployment , Poverty , Illiteracy , Voting Behavioural Pattern (Casteism) , Multiparty system(Coalition government) , Insurgency , National decisions affecting due to Globalization , Political Criminal Nexus , Money factor playing important part in elections –Cash for vote system.Democracy requires respect for human rights and fundamental freedom. It requires as well a deeper understanding and respect for needs of more vulnerable groups of society, especially women and children. The social stability needed for productive growth is nurtured by conditions in which people can readily express their will. For this, participation of strong domestic institutions is essential.
